Per Outkick the Coverage‘s Clay Travis, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt wanted to hire former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze as offensive coordinator but was denied by Chancellor Beverly Davenport.
Tennessee wasn’t the only school that wanted Freeze to come in as an offensive coordinator. Alabama and Missouri both interviewed Hugh Freeze, but were unable to complete the hire. We have even received reports that Chad Morris at Arkansas reached out.
Now, as a believer in second chances, I think it’s absolutely absurd that Hugh Freeze is being shunned by the SEC because of a mistake at Ole Miss. It’s totally absurd.
Tennessee would’ve added an experienced head coach who has beaten Nick Saban more than once. You could even make the argument that if Tennessee hired Freeze as OC that he would be the best coach on the entire staff. Same goes for the Missouri Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Freeze’s value is incredibly high and I do believe he will be coaching in 2019. Zero doubt that this happens. When your talent exceeds your problems, you will always be employed.
